I don’t like them and I’m going to attempt to tell you why.

Kinja'd!!!

*Brrrrt* *bang* *other dumb sounds*

It’s just fakery. Maybe on the surface it’s not as fake as fake exhaust speakers but it’s all the same crap. Whether it’s a slow car or a fast car, it’s all faked for show. Like that big ol’ wing on the Countach but that’s different okay.

I think it’s like all that crazy chrome on old American cars or digital crap in the 80s or the current trend of way overstyling a car. It will become critically uncool, die a quick death, and remain forever a relic of the times.

And it will happen somewhere around the time it trickles down from expensive Mercedes’ to Mercedes hatchbacks to Nissans to Hyundais to whatever turds China are trying to squeeze into bloated markets these days.

But would it be okay on a car thats running rich? Its not at all on purpose if your closer to 12:1 A/F for power and end up having unburned fuel in the exhaust

The only good exhaust pops are anti-lag exhaust pops.

I would not be able to live with this on every shift. I got my subaru tuned here years ago and it will crackle a bit if I blip the throttle on deceleration or if I hit a beautiful shift but every shift is annoying. Unless you truly do have anti-lag, in which case the only reason you should be on the street is between stage rallies

Usually they have modes and all that so you can shut them up I guess. I’m still mad

I guess. I mean, the car isn’t healthy and that’s why it’s doing it

I’m okay with it as long as the bangs and pops can be turned off. The noice can be nice in short bursts, but sometimes you just want peace and quiet.

I’m picking up what you’re throwing down. The OEM’s used to work hard to tune a car right to get rid of all that razzamatazz. Now it’s deliberately added in to create character.

Agreed that it’s ok in limited applications. I like it on V6 and V8 Camaros. It’s juicy on the F-type. Not sure I need it on an AMG45 or a SVR Range Rover. Just makes certain cars sound broken.

It’s just excess fuel right?

You know what? If you tuned it yourself, go for it. If you understand that closing the intake valve early at high RPM while dumping in fuel is going to get you the sound that you feel fits your car, then good on you.

Should every Civic do it? Nah, definitely not. But here’s the thing - it’s never going to really go outside enthusiast cars. Normies hear it and think “it sounds broken”. Your minivan will never do it from the factory.

Now if a Camry does it? That’s like seeing your parents twerking. ITS NOT COOL ANYMORE, MOM!!!!

Heard one of those Merc hatches launch from a light and go through the gears. It really sounded awful. Each pop sounded like a sound clip.

The F-Type starts to sound the same way very quickly. Every blip and upshift sounds identical. (puts on flame suit)

turn your local parking lot into an instant re-enactment of gang violence except without any of the guns or people dying

Something about that particularly bugs me. It’s especially fake if you can just turn it off.

It was actually a type R vid (RCR) that triggered this article in me. It’s a cool car with some cool engines, but it just seemed so fake.

What if it’s a Camry sportivo? Or an option on the regular A-class? I’d be curious to see how far it can come before it becomes too much .

Like how everything has “vents” on the side these days. And spoilers on the back.

I agree completely. I heard it in the RCR F-type vid, that’s where this post came from. Every little mash of the pedal gets the same blip. Just sounds fake.

It’s 2018, and manufacturers are wasting fuel on making loud popping noises on shifts.

Really, this is entirely stupid.

On the other hand I got a FoRS this fall and giggle every time it pops on a shift. Granted it doesn’t do it every shift, even if you’re in sport or track mode. You have to be driving kind of like a dick to get it to pop.

Some sort of tuning wizardry with timing but I believe when it comes down to it, yes.

If it’s an AMG-line, fine. MAYBE if it’s a TRD thing. I honestly don’t think your average consumer wants this.

Kinja'd!!! Nauraushaun > Nick Has an Exocet

MAYBE! Or maybe it will trickle down like spoilers and vents and big wheels and everyone will want it. Big wheels even make a car worse!

Or maybe it will always be available at the touch of a button. Or as an option.
